The NSWHCA is looking at potential options for the NSW State Championships 2025/26 and beyond. The committee would like to gain an understanding from its members as to where and when they would like to race in the future State Championships. In this form you will be notifying the committee of:
- H16 & H18 States – 1st & 2nd choice of a location, and a preferred time of the season.
- H14 Women & Youth States 1st & 2nd choice of a location, time will be around February.
- Factors that affect one’s ability to attend the States.
Please read below the survey for some FAQ regarding why the NSWHCA Splits the State Championships.
MULTI SERIES FORMAT
The NSW Hobie Cat Association will again run two State Championships throughout the 2025 Championship Tour. In running a split series, the NSWHCA wishes to encourage our Women & Youth members to develop their skills and sail in a competitive environment. Additionally, we also recognise that many of our members own and race a number of different classes of Hobie Cat.
At the suggestion of members a number of years ago, the NSWHCA decided to expand the the State Championships to allow Youth, Women and sailors of multiple classes to compete on any Class of Hobie Cat. The NSWHCA hope to both encourage Youth & Women to race on different Hobie classes, and to provide members with multiple classes the opportunity to compete in a State Championships for multiple classes.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WILL THE NSW STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS BE FOR ALL HOBIE CLASSES?
This survey has a focus on the future States for the H16 and H18 Open, along with the Dragoon, Tiger and Wildcat. But for the Women & Youth teams, prizes will still be awarded when competing in an Open fleet.
- E.g. Will McKenzie & Paddy Butler competed on a Hobie 16 in many Open State/National Championships as a Youth Hobie 16 team, even finishing in the top-10 a couple times!
All other Hobie Cats are encouraged to attend, however, they will compete in the miscellaneous fleet as part of the NSW Traveller Series. No State Title will be awarded for these classes.
WHEN WILL OTHER HOBIE CLASSES HAVE THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS?
The State Championships for the H14-Turbo are running in conjunction with Mannering Park’s Phil Johnston Memorial 14ft Regatta, whilst the next H14 cat-rig, Women & Youth States will take place early 2026 and a location that will be determined by this survey! Any questions, queries, concerns or suggestions please get in contact with the NSWHCA committee.
WHY SPLIT THE FLEETS?
Many of the NSWHCA members that sail H16s and H18s, also sail H14s and/or as Youth &Women’s teams. Additionally, a lot of Women & Youth members are regularly crewing for others and don’t get the chance (or have a boat) to skipper themselves. By providing a separate event for these classes, it allows many of our members the chance to sail H14 & H16, and/or Women & Youth, with different skippers/crews or by themselves!
- E.g. Emma & Mark Webb race together on the Hobie 18 as an Open team; however, they both have Hobie 14s as well!
The NSWHCA wants to see ALL Hobie classes grow, and this is a great way to grow Women & Youth participation without affecting the participation in other fleets. It is also a perfect opportunity for all the Hobie Family to get together for another weekend of sailing, and socialising.
CAN I COME IF I’M NOT ON A H16 OR H18?
Yes, of course! This is a Hobie Regatta! We want as many Hobie Cats as possible to enjoy the time on and off the water with the Hobie Family!
