Rediscovered and reinstated at the 50th Australian Championships in Jervis Bay, the NSW Hobie Cat Association challenged the other States for Supremacy. In other words, Australian Hobie Sailing’s ‘State of Origin’.
After setting the challenge of at the 51st Nationals in Bris-Vegas of the lowest total points of the top-3 teams/helms in the Hobie 16 & Hobie 14 Opens, Team New South Wales backed their bid once again with a 64 point victory over the Victorians. Although leading initially after Series One with a successful top 3 teams in the Hobie 16 Opens, the home state of Queensland was unsuccessful in their challenge, with minimal numbers in the second Series with the Hobie 14s.
Leading into the 52nd Australian Championships, Team NSW set a new challenge for the State Teams: The Team with the lowest combined point score of their top-5 boats will be awarded the State of Supremacy. However, this is only inclusive of fleets with a minimum of three States in competition. Those being the 16 Opens, 14 Opens, and 16 Women & Youth).
