President’s Report | NSW Hobie Cat Traveller Series Update

What an absolute sensational season of sailing we have had!

Round 1 of our State Championships went down in spectacular fashion in Kurnell. Despite the dreary weather, we had an awesome turn out of 24 x Hobie Cats with a number of interstate travellers making the trip to Botany Bay. Round 2 hosted a record number of Hobie 14s on the water at Toukley, with a total of 35 boats racing on Darkinjung Country in unreal conditions. Thanks again to both Kurnell Catamaran Club and Toukley Sailing Club for hosting two epic regattas.

In the midst of our State Championships, the proposed rule changes for the Hobie 18 have been approved by the International Hobie Class Association, deeming ALL Hobie 18s class legal. In both Mannering Park and Tanilba Bay, we say 11 x Hobie 18s hit the start line and battled it out in some of the tightest racing the class has seen for a long time. It goes without saying that John Forbes has outdone himself. We cannot begin to imagine the growth the class is still yet to see.

The NSW Traveller Series includes all events held in NSW, commencing with Toukley Sailing Club’s Bill Cheal Memorial Regatta, and concluding with the Brass Monkey Regatta, once again on the hallowed shores of Toukley. The Traveller Series includes each competitor(s) results across all classes and all regattas across the state; and with only handful of events to go, the questions is which class will reign supreme. Check out the full list below.

COMBINED HIGH SCHOOLS SAILING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Taking place once again on the fabled waters of Lake Macquarie, the CHS Sailing Championships is being greeted by a fleet of 8 x Hobie 18s during the first week of the NSW school holidays. With two support boats joining one of the largest fleets of Hobie Cats in a long time, thank you to John for his unwavering support of the fleet. The NSWHCA will be providing the Hobie 18 fleet with trophies for the podium finishers, along with Hobie caps supplied with the generous assistance of Hobie Asia Pacific. Stay tuned for all the news next week.
